Title: ISM in molecular phase at high resolution: Molecular Clouds, Star Formation
and Dense Gas at Arcsecond-Scale Across NGC 3627

Abstract: We present new NOrthern Extended Millimeter Array (NOEMA)
observations towards a nearby (~11Mpc), large (Mmolecular~1010.5M_sun),
actively star-forming (SFR~2M_sun yr-1) disc Galaxy – NGC3627. These
observations currently represent the highest angular resolution (1.8 arcsec
– 95 parsec), full-galaxy mosaic of dense gas tracers. This initial project
aims to study the physical conditions of the dense gas within individual
molecular clouds, and to fill in the gap in our understanding of dense gas
over Galactic and extragalactic scales. We will make use of a large number
of ancillary observations towards NGC3627 – such as from the IRAM-30m large
project EMPIRE, and the recent ALMA large project PHANGS – which will allow
us to place constraints on how the dense gas tracers correlate with
molecular gas tracers, star formation rate and how they are related to
physical conditions
within molecular clouds.
